JA Conference Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted!
“The JA Conference is an opportunity like no other. Families are able to network with others on a similar journey. We learn so much about juvenile arthritis, including the latest treatments and ways to deal with a difficult situation,” says Katy Carter, the 2017 JA Conference Chair. “The kids meet other kids with JA, siblings meet other siblings and parents meet other parents. We all learn that we are not alone.”
If you and your family have never attended the JA Conference, this is a great opportunity to help get you there! For parents and caregivers, the long weekend is filled with informative sessions, parent/caregiver networking, breakout sessions hosted by leading health care experts and the opportunity to meet and socialize with others from across the country. Kids, teens and siblings all take part in their own educational sessions, activities and fun with new friends who each have an understanding of similar challenges and victories over everyday obstacles. Young adults have their own track of informational sessions, speakers, activities and networking opportunities throughout the long weekend.
Scholarships will be awarded in three different levels in 2017:
- Level 1: Registration (up to 4 people) or Single Registration
- Level 2: Registration (up to 4 people) and lodging
- Level 3: Registration, 3 nights lodging (1 room) and transportation (airline and mileage only) (up to 4 people)
In applying for a scholarship, you will be required to select the location you plan on attending, tell us a bit about your family and your current involvement with the Arthritis Foundation. Please give yourself ample time to complete the form. Additional details and hotel information can be found on the 2017 JA Conference site. Applications are anonymously reviewed and scored by a committee of Arthritis Foundation staff and volunteers across the country, and no member of the scoring committee may apply for an award.
Again this year, there are additional scholarships available for children and families interested in participating in a Comparative Effectiveness Research session at the JA Conference. This scholarship opportunity is in addition to Arthritis Foundation scholarship opportunities, and is available to all interested applicants by answering ‘yes’ to the last question on the application. No additional form is necessary to be considered.
“I am looking forward and excited to meet new families and reconnect with friends this summer,” says Katy. “At the end of every conference, I feel inspired and empowered to face the challenges arthritis may bring because I know I have a wonderful support system behind me.”
The 2017 JA Conference will take place in Houston, Texas on July 13-16, 2017 at the Hilton Americas – Houston, and in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 10-13, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. For the latest news and updates, be sure to follow along on our Facebook page!
