Enjoy the Health Benefits of Exercise on National Walking Day!
National Walking Day is an initiative led by the American Heart Association, but its call to action to be more active on a regular basis resonates strongly with the arthritis community, as walking can be especially beneficial for people with arthritis . We believe in the power of physical activity to help ease pain and manage arthritis symptoms.
In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently unveiled new arthritis statistics – increasing the number of Americans with arthritis from one in five to one in four – and suggested that there are preventative measures Americans should take to ward off or delay the onset of arthritis. The recommendation include physical activity and education. According to the CDC’s study, adults who commit to physical activity can reduce their arthritis symptoms by up to 40 percent!
We know that physical activity, such as walking, is important for people with arthritis. That's why one of our largest fundraisers – Walk to Cure Arthritis – combines the power of movement with our mission to find a cure and better treatments for arthritis! The funds raised from the 5K support our nonprofit mission and research aimed at finding a cure for arthritis. So far, we’ve raised $2.9M this year!
