Meet Our New Board Chair: Nationally Acclaimed Physician and Researcher, Dr. Rowland W. (Bing) Chang
A rheumatologist, epidemiologist and health services researcher himself, it’s no surprise that Dr. Chang’s focus as board chair will be pioneering new research and advancing the Foundation’s scientific agenda. Dr. Chang received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard. He did his rheumatology fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
As Board Chair , Dr. Chang plans to lead the Foundation’s new, programmatic initiatives, which include cultivating a new generation of rheumatologists by reshaping clinical fellowship programs to meet increasing patient needs; working to accelerate research for and conquering childhood arthritis; pioneering research that yields new, innovative treatment options for osteoarthritis patients; and improving the quality of care from the patient’s perspective by encouraging patients to work with health care providers to achieve the best possible outcomes.
With more than 34 years of practice and research experience, Dr. Chang is a professor of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and has been involved with the Arthritis Foundation for more than 30 years! During his time with the Foundation, he has focused on advocacy, public policy, research and public health activities by serving on standing committees as well as sitting on the board of directors.
Dr. Chang’s unique perspective, experience, and appetite to stand on the frontlines in the fight against arthritis aligns with the Foundation’s commitment to scientific discovery – and ultimately a cure for arthritis. We’re excited to welcome Dr. Chang as our new Board Chair as we look forward to another great year ahead!
