Winterhoff Arthritis Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted
The Winterhoff Arthritis Scholarship is awarded annually to deserving students with arthritis or another rheumatic disease who impact the arthritis community, serving as positive role models and leaders while living their best life, empowering others to do the same.
Since 2010, the Winterhoff Arthritis Scholarship program has supported 35 college students, awarding over $400,000 in scholarships.
Originally, the Winterhoff Arthritis Scholarship was a local opportunity, available only to students at three public universities in Arizona. The Arthritis Foundation saw a greater need, and in 2017 the scholarship became available to eligible students affected by arthritis and related diseases in any state, attending any accredited college in the U.S.
Since expanding nationwide, nearly 600 applications have been received in two years. Each eligible application is anonymously reviewed by leadership volunteers across the country. Applications include essays covering the impact of arthritis or related disease, future goals and arthritis community involvement. Reviewers want to ensure that those offered a scholarship award are not only striving to live their best life despite arthritis but are also empowering others who share similar experiences.
